Grundy
County Historical Society
The Grundy County Historical Society has been in existence
since 1923. Our long held dream of our own museum came true in
May of 2009 and we opened with many wonderful exhibits! There is
a machine shed with equipment and tools from the past ranging
from agricultural to toys. Our Military Room begins with the
Civil War right up through today with photographs, uniforms and
weapons as well as Flying Tigers artifacts. The housewares area
includes items manufactured in Grundy County as well as old
china, crystal and tea settings. We have an Old Fashioned
Schoolroom with benches, textbooks and toys. Our general store
is a replica of the 1900 Baum's Dry Good store. A lovely
Victorian Living Room has many delightful surprises inside. Our
quilt collection dating back to 1850 will show you the history
of quilting. The section on the Mazon fossils, includes the
Tully Monster! Chief Shabbona also has his own section within
the museum. In addition there is an area dedicated to the
pioneers in the county. Of course there are also plenty of
archives to be browsed with information about people, buildings,
as well as other County information. We also have meetings and
newsletters with interesting information and meetings on various
local topics of interest. The Historical Society is offering a
beautiful Grundy County Historical throw! The cranberry red
afghan depicts some wonderful scenes from the County. The throw
is $50.00 and can be purchased at the Historical Society Museum.
So come and visit us at the
Grundy
