Department
Programs
Neighborhood
Watch
The Neighborhood Watch program is organized to enable the
police and community to work together to make specific
geographical areas more crime resistant. It is a citizen
involvement, neighborhood and community based effort, designed
to help citizens and the police reduce crime and concerns
regarding crime in neighborhoods. One fo the more
effective ways to promote citizen interaction with police is the
sharing of information. Neighborhood groups determine
specific needs or concerns and then share this information with
the police through community meetings, merchant meetings and
homeowner associations.
Security Surveys (Residential/Business)
The Minooka Police Department offers free security surveys to
Minooka residents and businesses. A "security survey" is a
critical, on-site examination and analysis for the purpose:
- Determining existing security conditions
- Identifying security deficiencies related to existing
conditions
- Determining the level or amount of protection needed
- Making recommendations for improvement
Citizens Police Academy
The Minooka Police Department offers a citizens police
academy to residents and people who work in Minooka. The
purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is not to teach members
of the community to be police officers. Instead, it is an
opportunity for community members to gain a better understanding
of the responsibilities and challenges of the police profession.
Citizen Police Academies serve as a component of community
policing programs.
Citizens Police Alumni
Upon completing the Citizens Police Academy, graduates have
another opportunity to continue working with the police
department by joining the Alumni Association.
